Summer at Solny 2025

The next edition of Mia Gallery’s summer exhibition – “Summer at Solny” – is yet another meeting of diverse understandings and approaches to painting.

Painting as a work of art, painting as an object, painting as the emanation of the artist’s thought. In short, the gallery has been divided into two spaces... or, more precisely, into two and a half. On the left side hang works by artists who remain on the side of reality, who operate within various conventions of realism. They transform and reinterpret it, yet still refrain from leaving the realm of representational art. They juggle forms, but remain within the visible and the recognizable. That is their choice – and one to be respected. Here we find works by Kinga Flasza, Kuba Leniart, Zdzisław Nitka, and Agnieszka Apoznańska.

The space between the left and the right is filled by three paintings by Łukasz Huculak who, though not an abstractionist, offers forms that are not unreal, yet do not faithfully depict anything specific. He called them “Heliotropies” – seemingly from the floral world, but in fact born from his imagination and shaped by his brush. They stand, in a way, at the boundary of both worlds.

On the right side, we find abstract compositions: the informal abstractions of Kamil Moskowczenko, as well as those we might describe as geometric. The diversity of approach to this subject is evident in the works of Andrzej Gieraga, Ula Madera, and Thomas Vinson. These artists come from different generations and even different countries. Vinson is a French-German artist, yet the shared language of formal geometry connects them with great sensitivity and finesse. The colors are subdued, the shapes – refined. There is no single pattern, yet we can sense affinities that transcend generational boundaries.
