About
From the 23rd of November to the 4th of December, we will host Warsaw artist Edyta Jarkiewicz at mia ART GALLERY. As part of the “Absence” exhibition, we will present the paintings and photographic works (archival art prints – transposed photographs) from the recent years (2004-2012). In her work, the artist documents and explores the theme of the place, presence and absence, and space. Her works can be an inspiration for the viewers to find their own way of seeing things, leaving room for personal interpretation.
“Some of the works were created from a compilation of thematically and visually different photographs. I wanted to combine different worlds, to show that it is possible. It’s not true that different cultures do not match. We all have basic values and they are very similar everywhere. We ourselves decide to separate ourselves from the “Other”. In some of these works, there are photographs I took in various places of the world, or in places that are mentally different. For example, one photograph from the Gdańsk shipyard and the other in the centre of Venice. I created one place/image from two photographs. In reality, it’s not possible to be in two places at once, there will always be an absence.”
