About
“I’ve been working on graphics since I was 16. Copper engraving, etching, mezzotint, aquatint – I know everything about them” – Przemysław Tyszkiewicz has been using classic, noble techniques of recess printing for a long time. Endowed with a strong individuality and an extraordinary imagination, he is the originator, co-founder and a very important link in the Wrocław Graphic Arts School.
“His own iconography, full of phantasmagoria and metaphysics, as well as his own engraving form clearly correspond to the old woodcuts placed in bestiaries, or the old graphics by Schongauer, Dürer, Breughl the Elder, Bosch, as well as the art of Franciszek Starowieyski”, wrote the author of a text about the artist, Magda Szafkowska, examining his body of work with the inquisitiveness of an art historian. “He puts together various secret symbols in his own way, trying not to cross certain contractual boundaries. He has acquired excellent anatomical knowledge of the human and animal body, he values everything that is powerful, strong, certain, solid, stable and providing a sense of security.”
The artist’s latest time brings us impressively large, unique cords – graphic matrices filled with incredible etched visions that include a fragment of Wrocław architecture. The artist known for fantasy, impetus and perfection will show his land of happiness – and that is what the exhibition is primarily about.
Apart from the series of best graphics awaited by those who know Tyszkiewicz’s work, we will also show a dozen or so zinc-titanium fantastic pieces, full of impetus, brilliant shapes and poetic or terrible visions, which the artist calls Cords – measuring 172 x 55.5 x 5 cm.
