Tadeusz Kantor

“DRAWING - TRAP”

Curator : Opening : 10.10.2014 | mia ART GALLERY

About

An exhibition of the master’s drawings and the accompanying presentation of a book are an incredible opportunity to get to know this important, but often underappreciated part of the work of Tadeusz Kantor. The exhibition featured the first drawing attempts of Kantor from his school notebooks, as well as works from successive periods of his activity, until the last, fully mature and unique works.

Accompanying the exhibition were film screenings and a meeting with Lech Stangret, the author of the book TADEUSZ KANTOR. DRAWING.

Screenings of Andrzej Sapija’s films, from Tuesday to Saturday, 5 PM to 7 PM, and by individual request at any time during the gallery’s opening hours:

1. Tadeusz Kantor’s Mannequins – a film impression about painting, artistic objects and Tadeusz Kantor’s theatre. Produced in 1983 by Andrzej Sapija.

2. Where are the Snows of Old – a film made in 1984 by Andrzej Sapija during Warsaw shows at the Stodoła Student Club. Featuring a recording of cricotage, a short spectacle by Teatr Cricot 2, staged during shows of the Dead Class and Wielopole, Wielopole, which premiered in 1979 at the Palazzo delle Espozisioni in Rome.

3. Only What Is Seen Exists – a film made in 1992. The title is an inscription on one of Kantor’s drawings. Several hundred drawings and fragments of the artist’s private journal form the story about the life journey of the great artist.
