Open call for Nowa Art Space artist residency in Nowa Ruda.

New ART SPACE, a space dedicated to artists, established on the initiative of Wrocław-based mia ART GALLERY, aims to support and promote contemporary art. It is located on the premises of the former "Splot" People's and Artistic Handicrafts Work Cooperative in Nowa Ruda, a small town with unique historical and industrial charm, located in the Central Sudetenland (between Klodzko and Walbrzych).

Description:

You are invited to participate in a 2-month artist residency from August 1 to October 1.

The residency is aimed at artists working in various art fields/disciplines, during or after art training, with no age limit.

The residency aims to explore themes and issues related to New Ore and its environs, both current and historical, in any artistic medium.

Up to 4 artists will be selected from among the submitted applications, who will live together in Nowa Ruda and, with substantive support from curators Boguslaw Deptuła and Lukasz Huculak, will create artistic realizations that will be presented in at least two exhibitions summarizing the residency. The first show will be held at Nowa Art Space in Nowa Ruda, the second at Mia ART GALLERY in Wroclaw.

Suggested topics of exploration: history, cultural heritage, social transformation, human-nature relations, challenges of the present day and others. New perspectives and viewpoints are desirable, everyone can choose their own path of research.

What is a residency at the New ART SPACE:

During the residency, the artists/residents will live in a comfortable apartment located right next to Nowa Ruda's market square. Residents/artists will have two separate rooms, a living room with kitchen and balcony, a bathroom with bathtub and shower. Each participant is guaranteed an emolument (PLN 1000 per artist for the entire stay) and production and curatorial support.

New Art Space is still a raw and evolving place in transition. For creative and exhibition work, we offer a main building (about 250 sqm) and two storage spaces (about 500 sqm) with access to water, toilet and electricity.

APPLICATION RULES:

To apply for a residency at New Art Space, please send the following documents in PDF format:

- A portfolio that describes your past artistic activities and achievements and an artist statement;

- A project description (1000 characters). The description should include a predefined goal, theme, concept and plan for the project, along with any interdisciplinary assumptions or potential collaborations with the local community.

Please send the listed documents in PDF form as attachments in one email to the residency coordinator's email address: patrycja.bochenek@miaartgallery.com on July 6, 2023.

Rules and regulations for the residency will appear by mid-June.

We will announce the results of the call on July 8.

Organizer
1 The regulations define the conditions of participation in the artistic residency project Nowa Art Space Residency
.2 The organizer of the residency is Mia Art Gallery - Gallery of Contemporary Art in Wroclaw(50-061) at Plac Solny 11, and Nowa Art Space in Nowa Ruda (57-400) at 23a Koscielna Street.3 The residency will take place in the premises of Nowa Art Space Nowa Ruda (57-400) at 23a Koscielna Street.
4) The residency is aimed at Polish and foreign artists at different stages of their artistic career, dealing with various disciplines of visual arts, regardless of the artist's age.5) The subject of the project is to participate in an eight-week residency called Nowa Art Space Residency in cooperation with the Mia Art Gallery. The residency aims to develop a selected project with the substantive support of curators Boguslaw Deptu³a and Lukasz Huculak, and then to create artistic realizations that will be presented at at least two exhibitions summarizing the residency. The first show will be held at Nowa Art Space in Nowa Ruda, the second at Mia Art Gallery in Wroclaw.

II. Application
In order to participate in the call it is required to send a complete application in Polish or English containing:- contact information: name and surname, e-mail address, telephone number, address of residence;- a description of the initial concept of the implemented project (up to 1000 characters) responding to the themes of the residency, such as history, cultural heritage, social transformation, human relations with nature, contemporary challenges and others (it is desirable to indicate new perspectives and points of view, everyone can choose their own path of research). The description should include a predefined goal, subject matter, concept and plan for the implementation of the project-documentation of previous implementations in pdf format, a portfolio that describes past artistic activities and achievements, and an artist statement;

(3) Incomplete applications will not be considered for project selection.
4. an artist may submit one application/project.

III. Selection of projects
(1) The selection of projects will be made by a committee consisting of employees of the Organizer.
(2) The results of the call will be announced on the Organizer's website and social media on July 6, 2023.
3) The Organizer reserves the right to contact the authors of the accepted projects individually by email.
.4 The decision of the Organizer is final and not subject to change
.5 Joining the program means:
a. the Artist's consent through a voluntary, specific, informed and unequivocal demonstration of his/her will, in the form of an application for his/her participation as a clear action consenting to the processing of personal data concerning him/her;
b. acceptance and necessity of the Artist's compliance with the rules and regulations of the residency;
c. acceptance of the Artist's schedule of the residency program (any changes will be possible after prior consultation with the program curator and as a result of random cases);
d. acceptance by the Artist of the theme of the artist residency proposed by the Organizer;
e. the Artist's agreement to participate in consultations with the program curator, meetings with Artists participating in the program;
f. the Artist's agreement to participate in meetings (according to the schedule) presenting the activities of the Organizer, the assumptions of the residency program, documentation of previous works, stages of project implementation;

g. the Artist agrees to the presentation of the documentation of the meetings on the Organizer's website and in social media on the Organizer's profiles (Facebook Instagram, YouTube);
h. the Artist's consent to participate in the final meeting being a summary of the artistic residency program, presented on the Organizer's website and in social media on the Organizer's profiles (Facebook Instagram, YouTube);
i. the Artist agrees to lend a free license to present the documentation of his/her previous realizations, the stages of work on the project and the final result of the work (the Organizer's website, the Organizer's social media profiles - Facebook Instagram, YouTube);j. the Artist agrees to release the works created by him/her during the residency period in the resources of the Mia Art Gallery. One work will enter the collection of mia ART GALLERY.The remaining works will be left for the possibility of presentation in group exhibitions under the supervision of the curator. The works left at the disposal of mia ART GALLERY can be sold on a commission basis, and 50% of the value of the work will be transferred to the artist.

IV. General conditions of participation in the project
1 The organizer offers a fee for participation in the project in the amount of PLN 1,000.00 (in words: one thousand zlotys) for the duration of the entire residency period.
2. the Organizer provides accommodation in an apartment in the center of Nowa Ruda. There will be two separate rooms, living room with kitchen and balcony, bathroom with bathtub and shower.
3.For creative and exhibition work, the organizer provides the main building (about 250 m2)and two storage spaces (about 500 m2) with access to water, toilet and electricity.
4.5 The organizer provides for the possibility of participating in the production costs of the works
6.The artist declares that he/she is the sole creator of the project and none of its elements infringes on the copyrights of third parties.
7.The artist declares that he is not involved in other projects that prevent him from participating in meetings organized as part of the residency.
(8) The organizer reserves the right to make changes to the rules and schedule of the program.
(9) In case of fortuitous events, changes in the schedule of the residency are possible.
10) The participant of the residency shall be liable (including financially) for any damage caused during the residency period.
(11) The organizer reserves the right to seek compensation from the Artist on general principles.
12. the Residency with the selected Artist may be terminated by the Organizer without notice in a situation where the Artist does not comply with the scheduleua also the rules and regulations of the residency, and in the in a situation where the Artist grossly exceeds the scope of generally accepted social norms, causing danger to the Organizer and other Participants of the residency.
