Józef Hałas

HAŁAS ' 16 REMEMBRANCE

Curator : Opening : 09.01.2016 | mia ART GALLERY

About

“Beauty is in the pursuit of the full expression”

Józef Hałas created his own unique style – geometric and synthetic, based on rhythm, but still full of nuances and an extraordinary colour sensitivity – by observing and painting nature. His works are a treat for the sophisticated viewer and a strong cognitive element for the novice connoisseur. The sources of the artist’s inspiration are noteworthy – nature observed with tenderness and awe, religious signs and references, including a youthful discover that echoed throughout Hałas’ work – a visit to the Boyana Church in Sofia, Bulgaria, but above all the unending wonder he found in the mountains, particularly his childhood home, Nowy Sącz – mountains, which he passionately explored throughout his life.

“Art is a mystery you grow and mature into”. Heavily involved in the Wrocław artistic community, he served as a mentor to many. Until his last moments, he worked on his art, expressing boundless emotions on canvas and on paper. He fulfilled his destiny, as he said himself, by constantly discovering new challenges.

Hałas’16 “Remembrance” opens a cycle of exhibitions dedicated to the life and work of the professor and mentor, organised on subsequent anniversaries of his birth.
