HAŁAS’14. YOUTH is joy, colour and music. A range of emotions, hues and meanings in the newest work of the nestor of Polish art.

In the exhibition HAŁAS’14. YOUTH, you will see several dozens of the newest and largest canvases of the 87-year-old artist, which are a continuation and expansion of his breakthrough painting ideas, including the Vertical / Slants or Oppositions cycles.

As Mariusz Hermansdorfer writes, “[…] Recently, Hałas has been using the motifs from his earlier works: geometric figures, the rhythms of opposing lines, arrangements of points. He refers to the experiences he has gained from working in nature – painting on snow, photographs and films shot in the open air. After turning eighty, the senior of Polish art has begun to create paintings in large dimensions.”

The youth of Hałas knows no age and, like his creativity, is a state of mind and heart. An artist of this calibre shows how to draw on youth for inspiration, how to grow and how to stay young in his new creative discoveries and delights.

Hermansdorfer wrote earlier: “Hałas’ compositions provoke contemplation, feeling and experiencing. It is not matter, but spirit, not the organic structure, but the aura radiating from it that matter here.”*
